EMS Consultant

Emily Butters is pursuing a dual  MD/MPH at Tulane University School of Medicine and School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine with a concentration in social and behavioral population studies. She has several years of experience as a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician spanning prehospital medicine, emergency department operations, and community clinics. Her clinical background combines frontline emergency care with a strong interest in public health, systems improvement, and medical education.

Throughout her career, Emily has served in suburban and rural 911 EMS systems and critical access emergency departments, caring for patients across a broad spectrum of medical and traumatic emergencies. Her experience includes prehospital care, emergency department workflow, development of community-based public health initiatives, street medicine, and EMS education. Her current interests include addressing and improving cardiac arrest survival and disparities. She is currently involved in teaching bystander CPR and other life saving skill courses through community initiatives. She has a particular interest in strengthening the connection between communities and both prehospital and hospital-based care through collaboration, outreach, and physician leadership.

Emily earned her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Biology from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, before pursuing her medical degree and master's in public health at Tulane University School of Medicine. Her combination of frontline clinical experience, public and community health training and commitment to advancing emergency care positions her to contribute to healthcare systems through clinical excellence, research, education, and operational innovation.
